Day Two – driving to Endeavour Falls:

After a promise to return to The Lion’s Den on the way back, we push on north. Our destination today is only an hour or so away – Endeavour Falls, just outside Cooktown.

Walking down to the Endeavour Falls (from the camp grounds) Cam found some jungle vine hanging from the trees. After all the kids gave their best Tarzan (or Jane) impersonation we made it to the falls. The water was flowing well and about now we start making some direct comparisons to the Kimberley Wet we’ve just experienced. It wasn’t until the next day we found out about the 3 metre saltie in residence at the falls. Later in the day we went for a walk around Cooktown and found out that the track from Kalpowar to Musgrave had just opened. Phew!

Back in camp we found the Swaggers and joined them for some drinks and a bon-fire. There were plenty of kids around, so our boys were well amused and only needed us for something to eat.

Did I say drinks??? I think Debbie and I drank the entire apple supply of Australia in this one night. We were having the best time, and (in our opinion) were the funniest, most loveable, most popular people in the world. I’m sure the people that went back to camp early were thrilled with our drunken, excitable voices ringing out over the campgrounds (and for this I must apologise), but WE HAD THE BEST NIGHT EVER!!!

The next morning, we said farewell to the Swaggers, and planned to catch up again on their return from the tip.
