Cam and Dan at Lambert's Geographical Centre of Australia
9th July, 2009
Leaving Alice Springs behind for a while at least, it felt good to be back on the road. We’re ready for adventure. We traveled the Old Ghan Railway Line to Finke. Once again we were hit with the most juddering corrugations that left everyone exhausted. We also had to go quite slow anyway, as the track was covered in Old Ghan Spikes. They have worked their way out of the sleepers and soil underneath the road and just lay on top of the dirt. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to pick up a few more spikes - much to Steve's dismay. Cam and Dan ran along beside the car and passed them in through the window. It was quite funny. We were going to camp at Finke, but once we got there found it wasn’t really our kind of place, so kept going.

We also stopped off for a photo opportunity at Lambert's Geographical Centre of Australia. We found ourselves at Kulgera pretty late in the day so decided to get a room for the night. The Kulgera Pub is the first or last pub you come across in the NT, depending on whether you’re traveling north or south. It’s a pretty cool place to stop and have a beer. Within 5 minutes we had met our neighbour Michael. We went to the pub for dinner (no surprises there) where Cam received some more training on the pool table (he can actually sink balls now) and Michael arrived with his 3 children (Jonathon, Caitlin and Mark). We had a fabulous night of laughter with the kids running absolute riot all over the place.
