We are now camping at Leigh Creek. It’s a nicely set up mining town with all facilities available – at reasonable prices. We were only going to stay for two nights, but then a family from Melbourne (Evan, Cathy and their 3 sons Jack, Harry and Ned) turned up. Straight away the boys were introduced and off to play. How could we leave after only one night. So we stayed on and it has proven worthwhile.
Cam has now finished his first two weeks of Home Schooling, which has been a task in itself. Although I feel I now know the process a lot better, Cam still has a long way to go towards improving his motivation. However, it's still early days and I'm sure he get better at it.
While here, we are doing a lot of repairs. Washing down all the rubber seals on the trailer and car, siliconing up the gaps (as we are getting heaps of dirt inside). The trailer light plug came loose from the car and tore off, so Steve managed to buy some form of convertor and then adapt it to fit our connection. The connection in the charger on the power tank came loose, so Steve soldered it back into place. Now it works like a charm. The Coleman Hot Water System vibrated itself on and burnt out the pump. We only just replaced this before we left. We’ve sent an SOS to Joan at home to race to Penrith to buy us another and post it on to us at Coober Pedy – she has just reported “mission accomplished”. We really want to have the shower available while in the Desert. These corrugations are playing havoc, but we will prevail in the end. At least Steve’s bush mechanic skills are being put to good use.
The first two days and nights had the wind blowing a gale. On the third night it brought the rain which had us lying awake all night wondering if we’d ever get out of here. That’s the night we had a fire along with our new neighbours and other travelers we met at Montecollina Bore. Evan and Cathy mentioned they were off the next day to Arkaroola, so we promptly invited ourselves along. That is, if we can pack up a dry camp…..
