Continuing along the Gibb River Road, our last stop is the Windjana National Park. Wow – talk about leaving another highlight to the last part of the trip! This place is amazing. The afternoon we got there we took a walk down the Windjana Gorge to see the Freshwater Crocodiles. There are heaps of them all at the waters edge within hand reach. No fences nothing, you would walk on them if you weren’t looking down. It was cool to see them fighting amongst themselves.

The next morning we went to Tunnel Creek. This creek runs through a cave and has a feel a bit similar to the Jenolan Caves. You walk through the tunnel across little streams, and have all these bats hanging and squeeking overhead. Dan was a real trouper with some of the streams reaching the top of his legs. For a little boy that was really quite unadventurous before we left, he has come a long way. By the time we walked out of the tunnel, the boys had declared this as their absolute highlight place of the trip. That’s saying something.

We were going to spend two nights here, but now that we’re so close to Broome, Cam and Dan wanted to just jump in the car and drive until we get there. They were on a high after walking Tunnel Creek, and now they just wanted to see Grandad. So, that’s what we did. The drive was somber as Steve and I talked about the fact that this would be the end of Part A of our travels. Although we were relieved to think we’d be in Broome that night, we were saying goodbye to our gypsy lifestyle that we have now grown to love. We’ve agreed that this will be a longer term stop to stock the bank account up, but will hit the road again when we can. We’re not finished our traveling yet.
